Retford man saddles up for charity cycle ride

A volunteer driver for The Bassetlaw Community Car Scheme is raising money for the charity by cycling from Lands End to John O’Groats.

David Wadsworth, 57, of Cavendish Road, Retford is hoping to raise £5000 for The Bassetlaw Action Centre by cycling the 990 miles starting on Sunday 9th September.

Averaging over 70 miles a day the journey will take 14 days to complete.

Cycling enthusiast David has already clocked up more than 1,000 miles in training for the event, which he started last Christmas.

“Completing the ride has been a long term ambition, and now that I am semi-retired I have the time to do it and also the many training hours required to try and prepare my ageing body for the challenge,” he said.

“I am supporting the Action Centre, because as a volunteer driver for them, I see at first hand the great work they do for vulnerable and older people across Bassetlaw. “

David is funding the trip entirely from his own resources and all monies raised will go to the Action Centre to support the work they carry out.
