Retford: Mum-of-three Serena Baines goes back to college and lands dream job

A Retford mum-of-three who returned to college while working full-time has landed her dream job.

Serena Baines, 51, of Rampton village graduated from Lincoln College with a Level 5 Intermediate Certificate in Human Resource Management.

Serena studied part-time while working as a PA for a headteacher.

After finishing her studies she applied for a job as a personnel manager at the Elizabethan Academy in Retford.

Serena said she was delighted to be offered the job: “My last job involved some HR which I really enjoyed as I’ve always had a passion for working with people. However, there’s quite a lot of legislation to keep up to date with so I applied to study a Level 3 course two years ago at Lincoln College.”

“Although it was hard work getting used to writing assignments again I knew this is what I really wanted to do and decided to carry on into higher education.”

“I was worried about the age gap but there was another lady on the course who was older than me and we were able to share our experiences of the working world with our younger classmates.”

“Since being on this course I have learnt so much and gained many valuable skills which helped me to build up the courage to apply for my new role.”

Serena graduated from Lincoln College, along with over 130 other students,at Lincoln Cathedral.
