Retford: Pair open Saturday afternoon tea room inside pub

Two women have opened up a Saturday afternoon tea room inside a Retford pub.

Chef Sue Sherry and busy mum Georgina Gilchrist have opened up Molly’s Tea Room in the newly decorated drawing room at the Rum Runner pub.

The room has been transformed with vintage artefacts and the pair have also acquired a collection of china tableware from the 1940’s and 1950’s.

A unique feature of the tea room will be a gramophone record player which will play original ‘78’ records.

Georgina said: “Retford is a great little market town with many hidden gems, and we hope this will become another one.”

“It is a friendly, welcoming, slightly quirky and affordable place for people to enjoy a Saturday afternoon.”

“The plan is to host other small gatherings like baby showers, hen parties and christenings with fund-raising events every now and then for our nominated charities which are very close to our hearts.”

During the summer, plans are in place to have tea dancing in the courtyard with a number of seasonal vintage refreshments to add to the atmosphere.

Landlord John Noyes said: “The girls have come up with a lovely alternative for customers to relax and unwind which compliments the rest of the pub perfectly.”
