Retford: Selfless little Sophia raises £500 in pledge to donate hair to Princess Trust
Little Sophia Gilchrist has pledged to cut off her long locks later this year in order for them to be made into a wig for the Little Princess Trust, which makes hairpieces for children who have lost their own hair after undergoing chemotherapy.
Gaining support from family, friends and staff and pupils from Thrumpton School for “Sophia’s Snip”, the caring little girl has already managed to collect an impressive £500 in sponsorship for the hospice, based in North Anston.
Sophia’s proud mum, Georgina Gilchrist, said: “It is amazing that Sophia is only five, and yet she was so adamant that she was going to do this.
“Sophia heard the story of another girl donating her hair to make the wigs and said that she wanted to do it too.
“Then friends and family joined in to offer their support, and the whole thing has snowballed.”
There will be a tea party for Sophia at The Rum Runner Pub in Retford on Saturday, May 7 to celebrate the “snip”.
“Poorly children just want to be normal, and we’re hoping Sophia’s Snip will raise more awareness of the Little Princess Trust while raising money for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice who do such a wonderful job supporting families in the area.”
