A special Spot it, Count it event at Idle Valley Nature Reserve in Retford will feature a series of free walks, insect counting and pond–dipping sessions throughout the day as the wildlife charity seeks to learn more about the wildlife that thrives at this spectacular wildlife haven.

“The Idle Valley is a huge nature reserve, by far the largest in our care, and there is so much wildlife waiting to be discovered there,” said Erin McDaid, Notts Wildlife Trust’s head of communications.

“We want people to join us for a fun filled day of activities where they can learn about wildlife and hopefully help us discover new species too.”

This free event is on Saturday (25th July) from 10am-4pm and starts with a guided bird walk.

Other walks throughout the day will look at butterflies and other insects.

At 11.30am and 1.30pm there will also be pond dipping sessions to discover species that live beneath the surface.

“There is so much wildlife all around us and if we only took a little time to look more closely at our surroundings we’d all discover species we’ve not seen before,” continued Mr McDaid.

“We hope our Spot it, Count it event encourages people to come along to see what wildlife we have to offer at the idle Valley and then to use the knowledge to look for wildlife in their gardens or in the local park.”

“We hope to discover some new species for the reserve and who knows, perhaps we’ll inspire the next generation of David Attenboroughs too”
