Mr Emm arrived in North Thoresby in 1985 from a Grimsby parish and he is the fourth longest-serving rector at St Helen’s in approaching 300 years, according to parish records.

During the course of the afternoon, Bob and Susan were presented with numerous cards and gifts.

There were also a number of presentations from the village and the parochial church council, together with everyone’s best wishes for a long and happy retirement.

Bob’s response was succinct, to the point and moving, thanking everyone for the love and friendship given to him and

Susan over their time in the village.

He told how, when they came to North Thoresby, it had been something of a culture shock for them after Grimsby – even though they had moved only a few miles down the A16.

Mr and Mrs Emm will continue to live in the area.
