REVIEW: JLS 4th Dimension Tour, Sheffield Motorpoint Arena

LISA Williams reviews JLS 4th Dimension concert at Sheffield Motorpoint Arena...

At the age of 33 and after sitting through both support acts I’d quickly decided I was far too old for the noise of thousands of adoring teenagers screaming out and chanting the names of their favourite band member while eagerly awaiting their presence on stage.

How wrong could I be? The foursome made a surprising entrance by being lowered on to the middle stage in the centre of the arena and quickly launched into a number of old favourites as well as songs from the latest album.

Surprisingly the harmonies and vocals of these guys were spot even during some of the most daring dance routines.

I have to stress the energy of JLS as they leapt from the centre stage and ran through the crowd to the main stage to complete the first of the ‘4 dimensions’ we were promised for the evening.

The main concept of the show was based around a video game and as the boys completed each level they collected a diamond.

This added to the excitement and anticipation as with each dimension (level) the dance routines and costume changes went up a gear until they reached the 4th dimension and achieved infinity.

The highlight of the night – for me , and certainly my nine-year-old daughter was their incredible version of Labrinth’s Earthquake, which saw them dressed as Jedi Knights.

The routine featured some breathtaking wire-fighting and acrobat routines battling against masked enemies and finished with some rather colourful firework explosions and lighting effects. This even had me dancing in my seat.

Ballads were frequent during the show - possibly a little too frequent if I’m completely honest - but again this gave the audience the chance to appreciate the strength of each individual vocal and strong harmonies that JLS as a whole deliver.

Positive comments from avid fans as we were leaving along with a beaming smile from my daughter and the request of “Can we go again tomorrow Mum?” topped off the evening. And I certainly wouldn’t hesitate in booking tickets again.
