Riders make festive deliveries

The event was organised by the Boston Motorcycle Riders’ Association and saw a group of riders deliver gifts to the children’s ward at Boston’s Pilgrim Hospital and Boston Women’s Aid, which runs a hospice in the town.

It was the ninth year the association has made its toy run and charity ride.

Ahead of the event, it appealed for donations from members of the public of toys for the children’s ward and such items as supermarket vouchers, toiletries and clothing, as well as toys, for the women’s refuge.

David Simpson, from the Boston Motorcycle Riders’ Association, said this year’s event saw a great turn out.

“Bikers and scooter riders from all over south Lincolnshire, including Mablethorpe, Skegness, Spalding and, of course, Boston took part.

“Many thanks to all those who attended and to those who donated gifts.

“The first part was a ride through the town to the Market Place, where donations were presented to the delighted representatives of the Women’s Refuge.

“Following the presentation, the club rode slowly through the shopping precinct, then on to Pilgrim Hospital, presenting the toys to the children’s ward – much to the delight of both staff, patients and parents.”

This year, the association was joined by a group of riders who had set off from Skegness that morning with six bin bags filled with gifts following their own appeal.

This had been organised by the Skegness Scooter and Soul Scene.

Founder Dave Askew, 51, of Skegness, was among those to visit the children’s ward to pass on the donations.

He said the children there were ‘beside themselves’ with the gifts.
