Role models to give guidance to offenders

Lincolnshire Action Trust (LAT) provides guidance to young people from ages eight to 18, who are referred to them by youth offending services and anti-social behaviour teams, through a dedicated team of volunteers.

However, the organisation says it ‘is in need of support in the Boston area’.

Lincoln-based volunteer Gary, who didn’t want his full name published, said: “Once you build a bond, you’re able to help your client reach their potential, which is great for them but also the wider community.

“That’s the most rewarding part for me.

“I want to pursue a career working with young people within the criminal justice system and volunteering with LAT has given me an opportunity to gain experience and test the water to make sure it was right for me.

He added: “I’m proud to have worked with some real success stories and received positive feedback from both the police and Youth Offending Services.”

Volunteers are given a full training brief before being asked to offer even a couple of hours a week to mentor the youngsters.

Mentoring sessions can take place in the young person’s home or out and about and aim to help them overcome challenges and build confidence.

Travel and expenses can be reimbursed and a DBS check will be paid for.
