The joy of playing a traditional game has helped raise much needed funds for St Andrew’s Children’s Hospice.

Binbrook and District WI has become well-known for running a roll-a-penny board at village events recently and it has always proved to be very popular.

And the group’s treasurer Barbara Pollard was delighted to be able to present £125, just a third of the money raised, to Kelly Uprichard from the hospice, who spoke to the WI about how the hospice strives to be a haven of happiness and laughter for its users and their families. The roll-a-penny will be out again at the Spring Fair in the village hall on April 13.

Next month’s meeting of the WI will be the first in their new venue - the village hall.

And their guest speaker will be historical author Sue Allan, who, dressed in full costume, will be talking about the Tudor inhabitants of Gainsborough Old Hall.

Visitors will be welcome to the meeting, where doors open at 7pm and the meeting starts at 7.15pm.

Garden Club - There was a good turn out for the AGM of the garden club, with four new members signing up on the night.

Pam Thirde was elected chairman for the coming year, with Barbara White secretary and Barry Jordan treasurer.

And the club has a packed programme arranged, with both indoor speakers and garden visits planned.

The next meeting will be in the Reading Room on Wednesday, April 16, starting at 7.30pm, when the speaker will be Brian Schofield on the history of roses.

The first of the outings will take place the following month, May 21, with a visit to Cotehill Cheese at Osgodby.

In June, the meeting will be a week later than normal, due to the Lincolnshire Show, and will be a visit to the gardens at Mill Cottage, South Willingham on Wednesday, June 25.

New members and visitors are always welcome at all meetings.
