Rose surprise for sporty Michelle

Michelle McManus was nominated by her husband Tony, sports coordinator at Sport for Kids Like Yours (SKY) for her work with the organisation.

“Every day I get reports back from parents and children commenting on how much she cares about the children she works with,” said Tony.

“She builds their confidence, always keeps them smiling and at the same time makes sure they are all learning.”

“Her skills benefit SKY as she is very competent with the younger children aged between four and seven.”

It was fitting, then, that the Guardian went along to Hallcroft Infant School in Retford to surprise her with the rose.

Michelle was in the middle of an after school club session with the little ones.

And they stopped running around for just a few minutes to give her the floral honour.

Said Tony: “We have been working with Hallcroft Infant School for around 14 years now, providing sports and activities for they children there.”

“It’s a good example of how SKY can work in schools to keep kids active and healthy.”

Tony said that as well as being a friendly, fun face that the youngsters have grown to love, Michelle also does plenty of work behind the scenes.

“She makes sure mailshots are done, leaflets are delivered, awards events are organised, resupplies all the first aid kits, continually making sure we have everything we need to reach out to as many children as possible.”

“All this is done whilst having a full time job and on a voluntary basis.”
