Rotherham: Creating hubs at the heart of the community

More than 100 people attended a free conference in Rotherham about sharing ideas and good pratice on ways to sustain and reinvigorate community centres.

Speakers included Ann Stewart, clerk at Maltby Town Council, spoke about the work the council had done to get the Edward Dunn Memorial Hall as an active hub within their community.

Steph Hryshko inspired those attendingg with the work that Kiveton Park and Wales Community Trust had done developing the colliery into offices.

Conference organiser, Steve Ruffle, development manager of Rotherham Federation of Tenants and Residents (RotherFed), said ”It is a real privilege to find out about the work volunteers are doing all over the borough to keep local community centres open as important local community hubs.”

“Community buildings are a vital resource in the creation and maintenance of sustainable communities. Through the spaces and activities they offer, they contribute to the wellbeing of thousands of people and dozens of neighbourhoods in Rotherham.”
