Rotherham: Early death rates for borough revealed

Frightening early death rates for residents across the borough are spelt out on a new website.

The borough came 89th out of 150 areas for the highest number premature mortality. The website, longerlives.phe.org.uk, reveals that Rotherham has a premature mortality rate of 296 deaths per 100,000 people.

Out of 150 local authorities, Rotherham ranks 124th for early deaths from cancer, 115th for lung cancer, 105th for heart attacks and strokes and 81st for liver disease.

The figures mean the Rotherham is categorised among the ‘worst’ in England with 2,656 premature deaths between 2009 and 2011.
