The County Council is the registration authority for the county, which includes the registration of baby names, and offers residents the chance to celebrate the birth of their child through a naming ceremony.

Ten babies were given the name Charlotte in the county in the last 12 months along with 65 girls being named Elizabeth as a middle name over the same period.

Helen Scaman from the Council’s Registration service, said: “Charlotte is a popular traditional name and we are expecting more parents to be inspired by William and Catherine’s choice of name for their new baby in the coming months.

“We are finding Elizabeth an increasingly popular choice as a girl’s middle name, which could be due to changing fashions as well more couples honouring a grandmother or another relative with the same name as the Royal couple have done.”

The Council offers naming ceremonies to welcome new babies and older children into the family – a great alternative to a traditional christening.

Naming ceremonies are a real celebration and unique opportunity for everyone to feel involved as they promise love and support to the child and their parents.
