Nikki Batt, 48, has been at RAF Cranwell since 2003, and is centre manager for the Kidzone childcare facility.

She was presented with a British Empire Medal by the Lord Lieutenant of Lincolnshire, Mr Toby Dennis, last month.

The British Empire Medal is awarded to individuals for civil or military service worthy of recognition by the Crown.

On receiving her medal, Nikki said: “To receive such recognition for my work over the last 10 years has been truly overwhelming.

“I am absolutely delighted with my British Empire Medal and to have it presented by the Lord Lieutenant in front of the children and staff was very special for me and my family.”

After the presentation, Mr Dennis joined the children in the facility for afternoon tea.

Nikki has lived in Sleaford since 2006.

In 2007, Nikki took over the management of Kidzone and has since looked after an average of 130 children each year and 40 staff.

A spokesman from RAF College Cranwell said: “The British Empire Medal was awarded in recognition of that high level of support Nikki has given to Royal Air Force families.”
