Santas in the running at Rother Valley event

ROTHER Valley Country Park turned red and white recently as the latest Santa dash took place.

Aston Co-op organised the run around the country park to raise vital funds for learning disability charity Mencap.

There were 35 entrants who under starter’s orders at the start line - all dressed in full Santa suits and beards.

Half the group ran the 5km course, while the other half walked.

They had enjoyed a five minute warm up session before the race to the limber the joints and get their hearts pumping.

It was quite an unexpected sight for the people out and about enjoying a quiet Sunday morning stroll through the park.

The speediest Santa completed the course in just 23 minutes.

“A tremendous effort from all the Santa’s with the winner Ben Kay passing the 5km winning post at 25 minutes,” said event organiser and Co-op’s manager John Marsh.

The event raised £2,350 for the Co-op groups charity of the year Mencap.
