A post to Facebook reported the incident happened on Northgate and involved four pupils from St George’s Academy.

Academy Principal Wayne Birks confirmed the school had been alerted after the incident last Tuesday afternoon, involving St George’s students and a student from a neighbouring school.

He said: “Although no one was injured, it appears that the behaviour of several of our students fell short of the high standards we expect. The parent of the student from the neighbouring school has been in contact with us and has suggested that there was no malicious behaviour on the part of St George’s students.” He said staff were seeing all students involved with parents to reiterate behaviour expected.

Mr Birks added the school regularly stresses the importance of safety and has extended the end of school crossing time on Northgate.

He and his senior team were regularly on duty in the area too.

Police confirmed they had received no reports.
