School’s 50th anniversary

The school, which was originally built in 1935, was divided into boys and girls.

Three years later, in 1938, they built an extension and a gym.

In 1957 the two halves merged and then in 1963 the Dinningtom Comprehensive School we know today was opened.

In the 1970s they added a swimming pool, technology block, sports hall, new sixth form base and a library.

In 1996 there was an arson attack on the original building and the new building opened in 1997.

In 2005 the school was given specialism status in science and engineering.

Then in 2012 Miss Dana Abdulkarim and student Jack Waring were torch bearers for the London Olympics.

The disco is on Saturday 21st September and starts at 7pm until midnight in the main hall and is for over 18’s only.

Headteacher, Paul Blackwell, said: “The event will celebrate the last 50 years of success at the school and will give the opportunity for past students and staff to look back at the memories they’ve had here. “

“We look forward to what we hope will be a bright future at Dinnington Comprehensive School.”

Guests are asked to bring their own food and drink.

Tickets cost £5 and all proceeds go towards the 50th anniversary fund.

The school are also publishing a book in celebration of 50 years.

A summer fayre has already been held to celebrate the school’s 50th anniversary and saw visitors enjoy a BBQ and karaoke.
