Scotton and District WI welcomed PCSO Bill Thomas at last meeting

That is because he is the Police Community Support Officer for Scotter and Scotton.

Bill talked about his role engaging with the public and bringing policing back into the community.

He visits schools to talk about road safety and advises people about how to deal with unwanted doorstep traders, as well as keeping in contact with parish councils. He is also a welcome visitor at Scotter Good Companions and helps serve meals at the Over 55s Lunches.

“As a result over the years Bill has got to know, and be known and accepted by, the communities he serves,” said the WI’s Mary Smith.

“As he said, some of the young lads he has had a quiet word of warning with over the years are now grown up with families of their own.”

“Bill’s interesting talk ended with him giving out leaflets with useful advice on security in the garage and the home, smoke alarms, how to recognise a counterfeit banknote, neighbourhood watch, and Crimestoppers.”

Bill also judged the competition for the ‘Law you would introduce if you were Prime Minister’, which was won by Angela Browne.

President Jean Renton reminded members of the Cliffside Group meeting at Blyton on Monday 7th October. Members were also invited to sign up for the WI Christmas lunch on Friday 13th December.
