Scout hut damaged by fire in Dinnington

A SCOUT hut in Dinnington has been damaged by fire.

The blaze broke out at the premises on Laughton Road at around 2.30am this morning (Monday).

All planned activities due to take place in the building have been cancelled this week.

Linda Beesley, group Scout leader, 22nd Dinnington said: “We were contacted at 4.30am this morning by South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue when we were advised that a fire had occurred at our headquarters.”

“Investigations into the causes of the fire are currently ongoing, and although we are not certain what caused it until further investigations are carried out, we believe that it may have been caused by an electrical fault, and is not being treated as suspicious.”

“The building was not occupied at the time and fortunately no-one was hurt.”

“We are awaiting access into the building to determine the impact of the fire on the structure of the building.

“All activities planned to take place in the headquarters have been cancelled this week. This will affect Cubs, Scouts, Beavers, Brownies, Guides and all other groups who use the centre.”
