Scouting around in Binbrook

A successful first term for a new Scout group on the Wolds was celebrated last Thursday when the youngsters received their neckers. Binbrook Scout Group began in May, with enough children to open three sections '“ Beavers, Cubs and Scouts '“ covering an age range of six to 14, from Binbrook and beyond.

The youngest Beaver, six-year-old Hugo Macbeth, was the first to be presented with his necker by Louth’s District Commissioner, Tony Groom.

Assistant District Commissioner Janice Spence presented the Cubs’ neckers and ADC Dave Waite the Scouts’ neckers.

“We have had a great first term and our young people have completed badges in navigation and fire safety, to name but two,” said group scout leader Mike Kaynes.

“We have all been on our first hike, visited Binbrook Fire Station, learned how to cook popcorn on a Trangia stove, and more.”

Scouting fun continues with a camp at Primrose Hill in August and more is planned for when the group resumes in September.

“There are so many thank yous for helping us get up and running,” said Mike, “but the main ones are to Tony and Norma Groom for all the district support, Janet Barnett and the Grasby Scout team for their support and help; Amanda, our Beaver leader, all the people who have come forward to help us get the Group started and, lastly, Hermes Lodge of Freemasons in Louth, who kindly supported the group from our formation.”
