Sculpture project in memory of Les

Sleaford Town Councillors have agreed in principle to permitting the sculpture of Les Gostick to be located in Monument Gardens, close to Sleaford Museum on Southgate.

The project has been led by Sleaford and District Civic Trust, with assistance from artsNK.

Mr Gostick was a former member of the Civic Trust as well as being instrumental in getting the water levels raised in the River Slea in town via a pumping system.

Laury Dizengremel has been chosen to create the sculpture after a public survey was held on whether they would like a sculpture of him.

Mr Gostick lived for 67 years in Jermyn Street, Sleaford, with his family, was the postmaster for many years, worked on the Sleaford Oral History Project, was Warden of Rauceby Warren Nature Reserve, member of Sleaford Museum Trust and published several local books right up to when he died aged 95.

Civic Trust chairman Tim Benton said Les Gostick was an enthusiastic supporter of the Sleaford Museum Trust, hence the choice of location, as well as overlooking the post office.

He says: “The prominent location is one that will be seen by most people passing through or visiting the town.”

The exact position will be agreed with the Town Council and the Museum Trust.
