Search begins'¨for life-savers for the area

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) has launched its ‘Best Summer Job’ campaign to find a host of new beach lifeguards.

Recruits will be kitted out, paid and trained to patrol more than 220 beaches across the UK and Ireland, including those in Skegness and Ingoldmells, for the charity.

Daniel Cooper, RNLI lifeguard supervisor, said: “I can’t think of a better way to cure the winter blues than applying to become an RNLI beach lifeguard and get paid to save lives this summer.

“We’re looking for strong swimmers aged over 16 who can swim 400m with a good level of fitness.

“If you have the raw ability and the will to learn, we can help get you fit and qualified.”

He added: “There’s nothing better than making the beach your office, getting paid to train and knowing you have the first aid and rescue skills to save someone’s life at a moment’s notice. It’s the best job you’ll ever have.”

The RNLI is running a National Beach Lifeguard Qualification course in Skegness from April 4 to 9 to help people qualify as lifeguards.

It will be free to attend for people who have applied to become an RNLI lifeguard.

Candidates should be able to swim 400m in under seven-and-a-half minutes.

This will be tested at a try-out session in Skegness at The Embassy Pool on Thursday, February 18.
