Sell out event for 5th Caistor Sting

Caistor Running Club held the fifth Sting in the Tail 10k race on Sunday and it was an absolute sell out.

There were many local runners taking part as well as regional club runners and even an international athlete from Ireland.

His time of 34.02 was just short of the course record he set last year at 33.40.

The ladies’ race was won for the third year in a row by Beverley Wilson of Cleethorpes AC, in a time of 41.42.

Following a heavy downpour in the 30 minutes leading up to the race, just as the David Bowie themed warm up was starting in the market place, the weather was cloudy and warm for the start in the centre of Caistor and many runners found the going tough.

The course took the runners out on the North Kelsey Road and into the woodland around Nettleton Park, before returning to Caistor on Moortown Road and the A46 bypass.

The public support along the whole route was greatly appreciated by the runners.

The final 2km were around Caistor’s historic areas, with short but tough ascents of Castle Hill, Cromwell View and Plough Hill to the finish line in the Market Place, where a noisy and supportive crowd had gathered.

The under 18s male winner was Peter Boyd of Cleethorpes AC in 41.47.
