In response to this, North Lincolnshire Council working with partners has launched a new integrated domestic abuse service, The Blue Door, for victims and survivors of domestic abuse and violence.

Previously domestic abuse support was provided through a range of services across North Lincolnshire alongside The Blue Door, It’s My Right Advocacy Service and The Amber Project.

The Blue Door will incorporate these services, providing a one-stop shop provision for those in need of support.

Individuals are able to refer themselves online, by telephone and in person at a variety of locations throughout North Lincolnshire, including the Laneham Street Centre in Scunthorpe, as well as being referred there by any professionals.

The Blue Door will be the only agency providing quality assured, accessible services for all who need it across the county.

This new service will provide support services including: individual outreach and advocacy service; free legal advice clinics; drop-in advice centres; support groups; full family support team; pattern changing groups for men who cause harm; training for professionals; counselling and therapeutic services; specialist services for young people experiencing domestic abuse; children’s sexual violence advisers; adult sexual violence advisers.

The council has commissioned the service and it is also funded partly by the Ministry of Justice, the Home Office and Police and Crime Commissioner, Matthew Grove.

Councillor Carl Sherwood, cabinet member Customer Services, Sport and Leisure, said: “Bringing all of these services together will provide a more efficient and effective service for those that need it the most. We want to improve how individuals access services for domestic abuse and provide coordinated care that involves families and friends, which the new integrated The Blue Door service will aim to do.

“Talking about domestic abuse is very difficult; therefore it’s important we make it as easy as possible for men and women to access support services. Having a one-stop shop style service like The Blue Door, will offer more combined support so victims receive help as soon as they access the service and are not passed to alternative services.

“If you have been or are a victim of domestic violence, please don’t suffer in silence.”

Debbie Winning, Domestic Abuse Strategy Manager, Safer Neighbourhoods, said: “After a thorough commissioning process which involved speaking to current service users on the design of the new service, I am delighted that we are now at the stage of the new fully integrated domestic abuse support service being launched.

“The Blue Door will now provide all the services for victims and survivors of domestic abuse and violence in one place. This is a forward thinking response to what is required in our area to assist individuals, both male and female, to improve their self-esteem and life skills. As well as raising awareness of domestic abuse so that victims are identified early by a range of partner agencies.”
