Heiko Salzwedel, the endurance coach who assisted Sir Bradley in his successful UCI Hour Record attempt on June 7,
told Cycling Weekly that a title defence is on the cards.

Mr Salzwedel said: “Until then [the British Championships], he’s [training] on his own.

“He’s going to go for the time trial there, and after that, we go to Livigno for an altitude training camp.”

Sir Bradley did not appear on the official list of confirmed participants when it was released on June 3, but event organiser Ian Emmerson told the Leader: “As the defending national champion, I’m sure British Cycling would look
kindly on him if he decides that he wants to take part”.
