Six month driving ban

A WHITWELL woman who fell asleep in her car following a row was drunk in charge of the car, a court heard.

Police on patrol at 11.30pm on 25th April saw a Vauxhall Astra parked at the gates to Whitwell sewage works.

Carol Abbott, 38 was asleep in the driver’s seat with an empty wine bottle on her lap after driving one and a half miles. Magistrates at Chesterfield were told that Abbott was asked what she was doing and she replied with slurred speech.

She went on to give a reading of 154mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath - the limit being 35mg.

Abbott, of Bakestone Moor, admitted being drunk in charge of a vehicle. She was banned from driving for six months and given a nine-month probation supervision order, with £85 costs.
