Skegness man assaulted stepson during row

Simon Mollitt of Castleton Boulevard, admitted assaulting Connaire Wilson by beating when he appeared at Skegness Magistrates’ Court.

Jim Clare, prosecuting, said Mollitt’s 15-year relationship with Mr Wilson’s mother had ended in 2014 but they all moved in with him. After an evening’s drinking with his ex­ wife, Mollitt became very aggressive and grabbed Mr Wilson and threatened to kill him.

Mr Clare said that Mr Wilson telephoned the police who came and warned Mollitt but within five minutes of their leaving, he started again. When Mr Wilson rang the police again, Mollitt punched him twice, pushed him onto the bed and punched him on both sides of his face, leaving him with a swollen cheek.

He told police that he was fed up with the situation at his home as he was working seven days a week and was having to sleep on the floor as he only had a one bedroomed flat for five of them.

Mitigating, Rachel Woodcock said Mollitt only admitted to striking the back of his stepson’s head during the argument because he had never offered to pay any rent. She said he recognised he had not dealt with the situation in the right way.

The magistrates fined Mollitt £185 and ordered him to pay £50 compensation to his stepson and £115 in costs and charges.
