Skegness pub licence suspended over violence

The Stumble Inn in Lumley Road has had its alcohol premises licence suspended by East Lindsey District Council.

Members of the alcohol licensing team from Lincolnshire Police submitted paperwork for a licence review hearing due to major concern over the management of the pub and the amount of violent incidents associated with the venue.

A hearing was held in front of the district council licensing sub-committee yesterday.

After considering all the evidence they agreed with the police that the premises had been undermining the licensing objectives and under the circumstances it was appropriate to suspend the licence for a period of one month.

During this period all staff will undertake new training aimed at resolving the problems experienced. The committee also imposed some new, more rigorous conditions on the licence .

Designated premises supervisor Rachel Kelleher is also attending a conflict management training course to ensure she is better able to manage incidents occurring at the pub.

Sgt Kim Enderby, of the alcohol licensing team, said: “We became aware in April 2105 of an increase in incidents of violence and disorder linked to the premises.

“Over the next few months these problems persisted, despite intervention at the premises. There had been a number of nasty assaults linked to the premises and we also found they were in breach of a number of their licence conditions.

“Hopefully the premises will take the suspension period as an opportunity to get their house in order and we will see an end to problems linked to the pub. We will always attempt to work with licensed premises to resolve any problems but if that approach fails, we will look to take further sanctions”.

There is a 21-day appeal process after which, if no appeal is submitted, then the revocation comes into action.
