Jane Lord, 50, is in the running for Infection Prevention Nurse of the Year at this year’s British Journal of Nursing Awards.

Jane is a specialist nurse for the Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LPFT) and is based at the organisation’s headquarters in Sleaford.

The LPFT provides specialist health services for people with learning disabilities or mental health problems.

In recent months, Jane has come up with a number of innovative schemes to raise awareness of the importance of good hand hygiene.

This included enlisting the help of the Red Arrows and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight to spearhead her crusade across the county.

In addition to securing help of the crews, Jane, from Lincoln, can often be found visiting inpatient and community teams across the trust.

“My role is about engaging our staff, service users and carers, and encouraging and supporting them to make the small changes that will make a huge difference to those we care for,” she said Jane.

She was nominated by her line manager Lynda Stockwell, who described her as an ‘approachable, inclusive, good humoured and creative’ nurse who ‘makes a special effort to involve staff and service users’.

The awards ceremony will take place in London on Friday, March 10.
