A planning application to turn a town centre car park into a hand car wash looks set to be controversial.

Mirjan Bayraktari of South Square, Boston, has applied for planning permission to set up a cabin with toilet, along with canopy and splash screens in the car park to the rear of Eat Drink Sleep hotel.

Access is proposed via Money’s Yard car park. It is proposed to employ three full time and four part-time staff, operating seven days a week. Agent for the applicant, Robert Lowe of Swineshead, says the proposals are chiefly a change of use and ground works, which will not affect the setting.

Solicitors for the neighbouring Boyes store and their landlords have raised objections backed by a legal agreement from 1986, saying it would infringe their client’s rights for access and parking.

The county council highways department also has concerns about vehicles queueing into Money’s Yard car park and pointed out that the sewer system, which feeds into Southgate, already struggles under heavy rainfall.

Sleaford Town Councillors expressed their concerns at Wednesday’s applications committee too.
