A GoFundMe fundraising page, 10 storey building abseil in Leeds, supermarket bag packing and a bake sale are just a few of the ways Kirby is working hard to achieve her target of £1200.

Kirby said: “So far I have raised around £1000 towards my trip.”

Kirby is travelling to Bhopal next Friday to spend three weeks volunteering with children and vulnerable women, along with her best friend Faye Honeybun.

They first got the idea of going to Bhopal, after seeing an advertisment at Leeds Beckett University, where they are both students.

“I wanted to look after women involved in domestic violence and help children who don’t have homes to live in. I’m very passionate about it” said Kirby.

Whilst in Bhopal, Kirby will be working with Ekjut, which is a voluntary organisation helping women and children receive an education and support in their day-to-day lives.

Kirby will be teaching young children subjects including English, History and Geography, and supporting vulnerable women who require help coming to terms with traumatic events in their lives.

Currently working at the Red Lion in Newton, Kirby has created a raffle for diners to enter for £2, with prizes to be won and proceeds going towards funding her impending trip.

“I am a bit nervous, but really excited to go out and experience all the different cultures.” adds Kirby.

Kirby hopes to do a little travelling during the last few days before her experience comes to an end.
