SLIDESHOW: Crowds gather for Remembrance Sunday parade in Gainsborough

Councillors, cadets and young children and families paid their respects by lining the streets and laying wreaths on Sunday 9th November.

The service was held at All Saints’ Parish Church followed by a parade to The Old Hall and wreaths were layed at The Cenotaph.

Events were held across the UK as the country fell silent to remember those who lost their lives during conflicts.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the start of World War One and it is also 70 years since the D-Day landings.

A two minute silence was observed at 11am.

A large gathering of people also took part in Scotter’s Remembrance Day Service at the village’s War Memorial on the Village Green.

Also as part of Gainsborough observance of Remembrance, the bells of All Saints Parish Church were rung to a full peal on the evening of Monday 10th November, with the bells half muffled in memory of all those from Gainsborough who have died in conflicts in the last 100 years.

They also remembered around 600 men who were killed in the First World War which included Sergeant Percy Ballance who died on 9th August 1915 and was a bell ringer at All Saints.

On Tuesday 11th November crowds also gathered in the Market Place to observe two minutes silence.
