Sophia chops off locks

A five-year-old schoolgirl had her long hair cut off '“ to donate it to charity.

Sophia Gilchrist-Thomas wanted to donate her hair to the Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs for children who have lost their hair.

And the charity-spirited Retford youngster raised £1,000 in sponsorship, which she wants to donate to Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice in South Yorkshire.

Mum Georgina said she was incredibly proud of her daughter.

She said: “She has won everyone over with her persistence, I’m just overwhelmed by the support that people have given over the last 10 weeks, it’s been an amazing build up.”

A pirates and princesses’ party was held at the Rum Runner Pub to celebrate Sophia’s snip, where there were a number of other little princesses from the town, and a very special princess called Rapunzel from Storybook Princesses.

Sophia now has a new bob cut for summer.
