Evangeline Morrison, from South Anston, has been presented with a cheque for £300 from her former classmates at Mount St Mary’s College in Spinkhill.

The school’s fundraising committee, Moving Mountains, donated Evangeline with the money which will be used towards medical costs needed before she heads out to India in the new year.

This trip is part of Evangeline’s gap year where she will be carrying out extensive voluntary work and will travel to Bangalore before heading onto Manvi, where she will join a Jesuit Mission Voluntary Scheme.

She will be teaching English in two primary schools and working with the so-called ‘untouchables’; a group of people who are seen in that region as being at the bottom of the Indian caste system.

Evangeline said: “Raising money has been a massive challenge and Mount St Mary’s has helped me enormously through their fundraising events.”

“I am very grateful to everyone who helped me.”

“I am very nervous about the months ahead but also looking forward to the experience.”
