A total of 866 vehicles were checked in the latest patrols and officers found that 22 of these were unlocked.

When police went to alert one of the owners of the unlocked cars that their vehicle was vulnerable, they discovered that the front door of the property was also unlocked.

Supt Eddie Murphy said: “There is still a need to carry out these crime prevention patrols. We will not be able to reduce crime unless the public play their part and secure their property.”
