With the party season now in full swing, officers are urging revellers to think twice about their actions when under the influence of drink.
Superintendent Peter Norman, South YorksPolice’s lead officer on violent crime, said: “At this time of year, many people become involved in celebrating the festive season by attending parties and social gatherings.”
“For some people this may be the only time during the year they visit pubs, wine bars or nightclubs.”
“Alcohol can make everyone vulnerable, regardless of their age or sex.”
“We know from experience that young men under the influence can become involved in violent confrontations and that women can be subject to unwanted sexual approaches by men. Many people underestimate the effects of alcohol and this can lead to changes in their behaviour.”
“I want to remind everyone, regardless of their age, that no means no.”
A series of posters are being used across the county in a bid to emphasise the lasting consequences that drinking alcohol can have, also targeting would-be offenders.
