Meanwhile, tributes have started to pour in for the family after news of their tragic deaths spread.

Paula Leverton, who owns Four Winds Equestrian Centre, in Spalding, where Charlotte used to regularly ride horses, said she was shocked and saddened by the news.

She said: “Charlotte used to ride here quite often before she went to university, I am just astounded because they were such a nice family.

“They are not the sort of people who you would expect this to happen to.

“I never met the father but I knew Charlotte and her mum as she used to come and drop her off because she couldn’t drive at that point.

“We are just all shocked. Charlotte was lovely, she was quite quiet but if anything, she was nice.”

People have also taken to social media to pay their respects.

Shannon Peacock, from Spalding, said she had spoken to Claire a few days ago.

Her post on Facebook read: “R.I.P Claire. It’s so sad to lose someone so kind and sweet and her daughter too.

“It was only a couple of days ago we were moaning about something that seems so insignificant now.

“My thoughts are with her family and close friends at this time.”

Jenny Mogford wrote: “This is so sad, I went to school with Lance and grew up on the same street, I’ve not seen him in years in more than 35 years, but he was a lovely lad.

“I wonder what went wrong?”

Also commenting on Facebook, Shelby Dean of Spalding, said:”They were the kindest people ever. Were friends with her [Charlotte] in school and worked with Claire. So so sad.”

Writing on Twitter, Angus Bennett said: “So sad to hear Charlotte and Claire Hart lost their lives today.

“From knowing Charlotte at John Harrox, she was such a lovely person.”
