Sporting Club’s great start to the season

GAINSBOROUGH Sporting Club’s first event of the new season was an outstanding success.

The evening started with a five-course meal provided by mine host Julian Hughes of the Weston Rooms.

The speaker was Steve Kindon, the former Burnley and Wolves outside left, who treated the assembled members and guests to an hilarious account of his footballing career.

This was followed by Ollie Spencer, a comedian who started his career as a drummer with 70s groups Nightriders, Sight and Sound and The Idle Race before turning to comedy in 1977.

He has appeared on New Faces, Tiswas and The Comedians.

The main raffle prize of a gallon of whisky was donated by L. R. Hutchinson and Son and presented to Mike Holland.
