Discovery Sports founder Dan Taylor and colleague Marc Hitwell will be running the event on April 17 to raise money for Joe Fullwood, who was diagnosed with autism when he was four-years-old and has always had problems walking.

In 2014, Joe was diagnosed with duchenne muscular dystrophy, a condition which causes severe muscle weakness.

Dan and Marc are looking to raise money for a vehicle hoist which will allow Joe’s PowerChair to be placed into the family vehicle to enable him to be more independent.

The hoist will cost £1800, and the duo are hoping to raise at least £500 towards it.

Dan said he had heard about the condition through a colleague at his sports coaching business.

He said: “I was speaking to my colleague who is related to Joe.

“He was 10 when he was diagnosed with duchenne and is now 12 and his condition worsened quite quickly.

“We got in touch with his mum, Marlene, and asked her aboutwhat fundraising we could do to help them.”

The event will form a part of a series of fundraisers Dan explained.

He said: “Initially we decided to do the 10k in April then said further down the line that we’d do another fundraiser - something a bit bigger, like climb the Brecon Beacons or something.”

Marc said: “My mum brought to my attention that Marlene is raising money for Joe in order to get a hoist for him to make life easier. Looking for a way to raise money I spoke to Dan and we found the Lincoln 10k.

“It is the least I could do for Joe and his story motivates me to work hard and raise as much as I can and run
a great race for him and Marlene.”

Dan and Marc both play for Leverton FC and as part of their business go to schools in the area to teach youngsters about coaching.
