Sports day at Dinnington nursery

There are some Olympic champions in the making at a nursery in Dinnington.

Youngsters at Rotherham College of Arts and Technology’s Rother Valley Day Nursery took part in their very own sports day.

Complete with refreshment tent and medals, the children took part in various races and activities.

“It was to celebrate the end of the academic year and also to tie in with the Olympics,” said one of the nursery managers Sally Huffen.

“It’s the first time we have had a sports day. We generally usually have a party, but this year we combined everything.”

“We had non-competitive activities. It was all about the children taking part, rather than winning.”

“We also had parents races as well.”

Youngsters from as young as six months, up to five years, took part in activities such as egg and spoon races and stilt walking.

They were given medals for taking part and also got the chance to rest after competing in the refreshment tent.

Sally added: “The children really enjoyed it. The feedback from parents was that it was very good and one of the best events we’ve ever done.”

“After the sports day we came back into the nursery garden and had a party and played some games.”

“For some of the children it is the last time they will come into the nursery and see everyone.”

“It’s a nice memory for them to take away.”
