Sports Days for community

A SPORTS day is to be held on Farr Park to ensure the Olympic legacy continues to burn brightly through Bassetlaw.

The Community Games will see a variety of activities from archery and hockey to laser tag and BMX-ing, guaranteeing there will be something for everyone.

Participants to the event, off West Gate in the town, will also have the chance to have their face-painted and enjoy live music and street dance among the range of family-fun activities.

County councillor for Worksop West Kevin Greaves generously donated £3,000 to make sure the event went ahead. “The event is to follow up on the spirit of the Olympic Games and to give young people a taste of what there is in Bassetlaw,” he said.

“There are so many clubs that are running really exciting courses in sports such as archery and tennis that are right on our doorstep.”

“I have put £3,000 of money from my divisional fund into this to give kids an opportunity of becoming future Olympic champions.”

The free event will run from 10am-3pm on Saturday 8th September and will also feature fencing. gymnastics, table tennis, tennis, a triathlon, tug of war, wrestling, martial arts as well as a barbecue, street dance and live music.
