Start date announced for Louth skate park

The construction of the long-awaited skate park in Louth will begin in April and be completed in May, according to the community group behind the project.

John Andrews, the chair of LouthXsports, has revealed that the construction on the £85,000 project is set to begin on Tuesday April 18.

The skate park, based next to the Meridian Leisure Centre in Wood Lane, is estimated to be completed by May 11, subject to weather conditions.

An opening date will be announced in due course.

LouthXSports was set up by Mr Andrews and his wife Yvonne in 2006, along with support from other like-minded people, and they have been campaigning for 11 years to bring a skate and BMX park to Louth for the benefit of young people in the town and surrounding area.

The community group received a massive boost when it secured £38,000 in funding from The Veolia Environmental Trust last summer.

Mr Andrews said: “With the joint cooperation of Magna Vitae and East Lindsey District Council, we have brought this project to fruition.

“LouthXsports would also like to thank to Louth Town Council, The Beech Grove Residents Association, Louth Sports Association, and the support of local organisations, individuals and local small businesses who, via grants, pledges and donations, have helped the group raise funding for this park.

“The group has young Evie Wood on board, a top BMX rider in her age group, who is looking forward to having somewhere local to ride and practice.”

Mr Andrews added that LouthXsports and Magna Vitae will manage the skate park, and that fundraising events such as quiz nights and race nights will help to fund the ongoing cost of maintaining the site.
