Stickney pedestrian crossing fight is '˜far from over'

Members of Stickney Residents’ Association met Lincolnshire County Council (LCC) on Monday to discuss their campaign for a pelican crossing on the A16.

They had submitted a 400-signature petition to the county council about the issue – stating children crossing to get to the William Lovell Academy and Stickney Primary School were at risk.

At the meeting, Coun Richard Davies, executive member for highways, announced a new lollipop person will start on Monday. The previous one retired in October last year.

Speaking to The Standard, Coun Davies added that support from a new housing development set for the village could potentially pay for a crossing on the road.

However, Coun Victoria Ayling says the battle is not over. “I will fight like a dog with a bone until we get a pelican crossing,” she said.

“It’s good news about the lollipop lady – but it’s not enough. Lives are at risk.”
