Stranger stole cash from Worksop pensioner

Cash was stolen from an elderly woman in Manton, yesterday (Monday) after a stranger entered her home.

Two purses were taken by a man who visited the 79-year-old woman at her home.

He turned up at around 3.40pm and asked if he could come inside for a glass of water. She let him in and while she was in the kitchen, he said he was going upstairs to use the toilet.

When he came back downstairs, he claimed his lift had arrived and left.

The woman later discovered her purses had been stolen and reported the incident to police.

The man is described as white, possibly in his late 20s, around 6ft tall, and of slim build. He had short dark hair and was wearing a dark T-shirt with a pattern around the neck and dark trousers.

The victim said he spoke with a slur.

Anyone who knows someone who matches the offender’s description, or witnessed someone behaving suspiciously in the area around the time of the incident, is urged to contact Notts Police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

Residents are reminded not to let strangers inside their homes and are asked to remember that cold callers may not be genuine.
