Swallownest: Summer fayre raises over £1,000 for mental health unit

Staff, patients and members of the local community alike enjoyed a fun-packed summer fayre while raising vital funds for Swallownest Court hospital unit.

The unit, located on Aughton Road, provides support and care for adults who are experiencing mental health problems.

The summer fayre, held on Friday 1st August, was a hit with visitors and complete with stalls and activities, which included goal scoring with football team Rotherham United.

There were also exciting science experiments for younger attendees to try, provided by the Magna science adventure centre in Rotherham.

Peckish visitors tucked into cream teas, cakes and sweets from the food stalls, and tried their luck on the tombola and games available on the day.

The hospital received donations for the fayre from local businesses, patients, carers, governors, local council members, staff and their friends and families.

John O’Grady, modern matron at Swallownest Court said he was ‘delighted’ that the day had gone so well.

Said John: “Everyone has worked so hard to make today a success.”

“I want to thank everyone who has been involved in making the summer fayre happen.”

“I would also like to thank the local residents who have come along and joined in the fun.”

“The staff and patients have worked hard on this for months, making the different items for all the stalls.”

“All proceeds raised will go towards providing therapeutic activities for those who attend Swallownest Court,” he added.

The day raised an impressive £1,300 for the unit.

Swallownest Court is part of Rotherham, Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH).

The pioneering mental health unit was unveiled in 2011, offering state-of-the-art services for patients.
