Swineshead nursery confirms case of scarlet fever

A letter has been sent out to parents notifying them of the case and advising them to be vigilant with their children.

They advise parents that if their children develop the illness they should be kept out of school for at least two days after the first course of anti-biotics.

A spokesman for the school said: “Mon Ami have had one case of Scarlet Fever at the Swineshead nursery and have written to all the parents.

“The child is off nursery and the usual procedure to contact Ofsted and the public health authority has been followed.”

Scarlet fever is a bacterial illness that causes a distinctive pink-red rash and mainly affects children.

According to the NHS Choices website: “Scarlet fever usually follows a sore throat or a skin infection, such as impetigo, caused by particular strains of streptococcus bacteria.

“Initial symptoms usually include a sore throat, headache and a high temperature (38.3C/101F or above), flushed cheeks and a swollen tongue.”
