Luca Romeo, of Brixworth Way, has wowed his peers and youth leaders and with his passion for scootering, and has been nominated for year’s 4Uth awards.

The awards, organised by Nottinghamshire County Council, aim to recognise the talents and outstanding achievements of its young people.

Luca initially had problems when he started attending the youth club, and was warned several times about potentially being barred from the club as he initially struggled with the standard rules and expectations.

However, once his raw talent for scootering was discovered he has not looked back.

Councillor Liz Plant, vice-chairman of the children and young people’s committee, said: “Luca has got some amazing skills in Scootering.

“This was identified at last year’s 4Uth Skatefest event where he surprised everyone with his skills.

“Luca has become a valued member of the youth club and is willing and keen to take part in all the projects available to him. He is another worthy candidate for this year’s awards and has set a shining example to others through what he has achieved.”

Following Skatefest last year, Luca has been invited to join the ‘Rebuild Retford Skate Park’ committee as a representative of the younger age group in Retford – a role he is keen to undertake as he is passionate about the refurbishment of skate park facilities.

He attended the first meeting with the local councillors to get the project up and running. Luca prepared a portfolio of photos and ideas to take the park forward which he presented to the councillors and they were really impressed with his vision and ideas.

In addition, Luca has volunteered to be on the planning committee to help organise the 4Uth Skatefest event this year.

Luca also demonstrates and shares his skills with the other young people at the club. He recently attended a team work challenge at the Retford Fire Station where the fire crew commented on his team work skills and positive attitude.

As a further highlight, he has been selected to join some young people from the Youth Parliament group to visit Parliament to learn about the decision-making processes and voting procedures later this year.

Luca is just one of the many young people who have already been nominated for the 2016 4Uth Awards which recognise the achievements of young people in the county.

Young stars who have been nominated will be promoted on social media sites such as Twitter and Instagram.

Nominations are open now until June 10.
