Tax refund text message scam reported in Skegness

It follows a call from a man who complained about receiving an unexpected text message which claimed that he was eligible for a tax refund of almost £1,300.

The message then invited the man to follow link which police are treating as a scam.

A Lincolnshire Police spokesman said: “Never click on links as they may be malicious and if a sender’s phone number is displayed, report it to your phone provider.

“Also, if your phone allows it, add the number to your spam number list then report the matter to www.action.fraud.police.uk”
