Teen mum tells of baby's death minutes after birth

A teenage mum has described the heartbreaking moment her premature baby died just minutes after she gave birth.

Jacqueline Nunn, 19, says all her “nightmares came true” when her son - Jaxxon Barrie Alan Webb - passed away after being born with underdeveloped lungs.

The delivery came weeks after Jacqueline suffered from pre-term rupture of the membranes (PROM), which meant her waters broke five weeks before he was born.

She was also told that he had breeched and was in the wrong position putting herself and her baby in danger.

Jacqueline, who is from Kirkby but now lives in Mansfield, spent weeks in hospital being monitored before finally undergoing an emergency Cesarian section at King’s Mill Hospital earlier this month when contractions started.

Doctors spent half an hour trying to resuscitate the youngster after the delivery, but he was unable to respond to treatment.

Jacqueline, who already has a daughter, Skyla, said: “Doctors came to tell me the heartbreaking news that my son’s heart rate was slowly fading away and ask if I would like him to come and be with me in his final moments, understandably I said yes .

“My gorgeous 4lb 3oz baby boy gripped my finger and slowly faded away.

“Surrounded by my aunty, cousin, grandma, grandad and brother we all said goodbye to my angel.

“The staff were so supportive and stayed nearby - I was allowed to clean him and dress him and keep him warm with cuddles.

“I was moved to a room where I got to keep him for an additional 48 hours, I thought that was long enough to keep him by my side.

“Nothing prepares you to give your new born child back and never be able to hold in your arms again.”

The hospital has kindly said it would take care of Jaxxon’s funeral and the family have started to raise funds for a headstone or plaque.

So far they have raised more than £400 with a target of £800.
